Welcome to Fourth Grade!!
Welcome to fourth grade!! My name is Ms. Brown and I will be your Math and Science teacher for the 2008 - 2009 school year. Ms. Fussell, my partner, will be teaching Reading and Social Studies.
I am looking forward to a productive and exciting year! To assist in this endeavor, there are a few things that you can do that will help in the team effort. In Math, please practice basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts as this will help to build a solid foundation for the skills to come later in the year. Please utilize the Student Reference Book (SRB) that will accompany your child's assignment. It is an important tool.
Also, check your child's planner daily as it is used as a communication log. Feel free to e-mail or call me at school with any questions or concerns. Thank you sooo much for your support. We appreciate all you do!!

Math Unit 1: Naming and Constructing Geometric Figures
The principle focus of Unit 1 is geometry. Opening with geometry enables a relatively relaxed beginning of the school year and allows teachers and students to get acquainted and establish year-long rountines. Starting the year with geometry also makes the point that mathematics is more than numbers and is strongly linked to language and art.
Unit 1 has five main areas of focus:
1) To introduce students to the Student Reference Book,
2) To practice using geometry tools,
3) To classify quadrangles,
4) To explore and practice addition and subtraction facts.
Science Unit 1: Sun, Moon, and Earth
Vocabulary- rotate, revolve, revolution,

orbit, crater, 8 moon phases
In Science, we will be learning about and comparing the sun, moon, and Earth. The students will be given a study guide to help to prepare for the assessments.
