I'm happy to be in Third Grade and meet my new, wonderful students. I'll be team teaching with Mrs. Rodriquez who will teach the language arts curriculum, while I work in math, science and social studies. We'll be working on science for four weeks and then switch to social studies for a four week period. We'll alternate these two subjects in much the same way throughout the year. Our schedule is such that we will change classes right after the morning announcements, and switch back to our own homeroom classes before lunch at noon. I'll give you an exact schedule as soon as we have established a regular routine.
We will begin with science during the first four weeks and the topic will be "Matter." The main areas of focus in our beginning math unit will involve exploring patterns on number grids, reviewing telling time on analog clocks, measuring lengths, and using calculators. We will also review data concepts and make predictions based on data that we collect. Finally, we will discuss giving equivalent names for numbers. When we move on to social studies, we will learn about the ancient civilizations of Greece, Rome, and Mali.
I'm looking forward to meeting you at Open House on July 30, at 7:00 pm. Before then, be sure to check your child's planner daily for important messages, and also to make you aware of the homework assignments that he/she is responsible for completing. Weekly papers will be sent home every Friday in the Dolphin Folder. There will be a behavior report in the folder as well.
Please feel free to call or e-mail any questions or concerns, and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I appreciate the opportunity to work with your children. I know it will be a great year!!!
