Week of July 21-25
Welcome to Second Grade! I am looking forward to meeting your beautiful children. We have such a great time in 2nd grade. I expect it to be an enjoyable year for all. Please feel free to contact me or visit our classroom anytime. Parents are very welcome in my class! If you would like to volunteer, I love that too!
A special "THANK-YOU" to Mrs. Richardson, who has already volunteered to help out in our class. I couldn't do my job as effectively without my volunteers!
Also, thanks to Mrs. Sablan who came in this summer to help me move my classroom. I moved from Room 205 to Room 100 during the summer. Thanks again, Mrs. Sablan!!

Second Grade Teacher
We will be busy testing the first couple weeks of school. Next week we will start our first reading theme "You + Me = Special." This is a very appropriate theme for the beginning of the school year, as it is about friendship and how we are all special. The children will learn what being a true friend means, and how despite our differences, we are all unique in our own special way.
This week's spelling list:
No spelling list this week.
We will begin with sentence structure (kinds of sentences and subjects/predicates) and nouns.
We will begin using a new writing model called "Four Square." In the past, we were using the hamburger model. We will create a writing journal full of your child's writing. Hopefully you will see a big difference from the beginning of the year to the end in the quality of their writing.
We will also write a poem a week in a hard cover poetry book. This will be designed like an actural published book with a title page, dedication, publishing stamp, etc. The children will even design and illustrate the cover. Stay tuned!!
Library: We will go to the library every Monday starting next week. Please be sure library books are in your child's backpack Sunday, so they will have them for library time on Monday. Thanks.
Homework:
The homework is for parents this week. Please fill out ALL paperwork from the folder in your child's binder, and return it in that folder.
Please check "yes" on the form for your child to have internet access. We do not have any
e-mail accounts for children in elementary school. That is for high school students, and I'm not even sure they get one.
They never get on the internet unless they are supervised. If you don't allow them to have internet access at school, they cannot participate in many computer lab activities such as research and getting on educational sites.
