Welcome Back!
Welcome to room 221!  I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year!  Below are a few items of importance that will make for a smooth transition from 2nd grade to 3rd grade.

1) Papers are sent home every Friday in the Dolphin Folder.  Please look through your child's papers, review when necessary, sign the behavior report, and return it with the Dolphin folder each Monday.

2) Check your child's homework planner each day for assignments, and initial daily once you have seen all assignments completed.  Also, check the parent pocket in the back of your child's binder daily for important dates or announcements.

3)  If your child is going to be absent, please try to pick up their work to prevent a work overload when they return, and to keep them caught up with what they missed while they were away.

Math Unit 1: Routines, Review, and Assessment

The organization of Everyday Mathematics is based on the observation that children learn best when they build on prior knowledge.  Unit 1 includes a number of review activities that children have encountered in earlier grades.  Unit 1 also establishes routines meant to be used all year to promote an active and cooperative learning environment.

The four main areas of focus are:

1) To explore patterns on number grids
2) To review telling time, measuring lengths, and using calculators
3) To review data concepts and make predictions based on data
4) To give equivalent names for numbers

Please refer to the parent letter sent home on July 21 for ways to reinforce Unit 1 concepts at home and for assistance with Home Links.
