Psychopomp is a word that describes someone who assists the dead or dying to fully leave the physical plane and find peace. Indigenous cultures consider this work a great service to the community as well as to the dead. In Western society, we have lost touch with the importance of dying a good death. We tend to avoid the topic, not accepting death as a natural and necessary transition that lies ahead for each of us. In this experiential workshop, we will explore how shamans walk between the worlds to help people who are dying or already deceased to address unfinished business and cross over with dignity and grace. Through journeying, discussion and ceremony we will:
--gain understanding of the destiny of souls;
--learn how to honor and support the dying process;
--practice techniques for helping the dead cross over;
--explore spiritual techniques to bring healing to disaster sites and other places where wandering souls linger.
The workshop is for those who wish to grow in understanding and awareness of the spiritual aspects of dying and beyond, whether for personal growth or to help others. It is an important component of shamanic practice. Those who work in hospice, hospital or eldercare settings may find it especially helpful.
